Rotating Tower 1

Overview

150ft Rotating Tower

A Rotating Tower is a matter of comparing installations from users all over the world.

I decided to make something different which is capable to turn the array at any weather condition and will last my lifetime.

Assembled construction,  the 3 phase 380VAC/1500VA motor with reductor and gearbox. Spacing plates to adjust the tension of the drive chain.

This construction will be covered by metal plates in the future to protect the helical bevel gear unit for any weather conditions.

HELICAL BEVEL GEAR UNIT
This unit has a maximum torque of 3990Nm at the drive shaft with a reduction rate of 1:576.

The weight of the rotor is only 265kg

This means a drive shaft rotation at 2.5rpm. Because I use a drive sprocket of 16 tooth (Z=16) and a bearing drive sprocket of 95 tooth (Z=95) makes a second reduction of 1 at 5,94.

Total torque at the tower base is 23690Nm.

More then 100 times the RC5B-3: 220Nm and 60 times stronger then the Orion OR-2800: 404Nm

Calculating the rotation speed: 143 seconds for one rotation.

A simple formula to calculate your torque is:

T=(P/rpm)*9550
T=Torque Nm.
P=electrical motor KW.
rpm=speed at tower base
